It’s the dirty secret of UX design- that the better we do it, the dumber and lazier our users can afford (and are therefore likely) to become.

That’s one (depressing) way to look at it. The other way is that the better the UX design is, the less time users are forced to spend learning something they (arguably) have no need to know. That extra time can be spent curing cancer or masturbating to Golden Girls episodes.
