My abode on the way to Chicago. I’m mesmerized with train travel. It costs the same as flying but takes 5x as long. That doesn’t matter, though because there’s no baggage fees, security, delays, crowds, liquid restrictions, etc.

Minus Internet access I can sit here and do the same shit I’d be doing at home, except I’ll be waking up in Chicago.

because I’ve got a bedroom on the train from DC to Chicago I get into the first class lounge. This place smells surprisingly of pee.

"A policy is enacted for a particular reason. The front-line people don’t know the reason; they’re just directed to enforce the policy. So a policy gets forced onto a situation where it makes no sense. The front-line people don’t ‘own’ the policy in any meaningful way, so they don’t feel entitled to make judgment calls, no matter how obvious they might seem."

Blog U.: Speaking on Behalf of…

This is one of the reasons I left my former job. Policy was enacted for a particular reason, usually to protect production data. In certain circumstances enforcement of those policies would increase the likelihood of destroying production data… but that didn’t matter. The goal was not to actually prevent disaster it was to follow policy. It doesn’t matter what the outcome actually was, if you followed the company policy you were “doing the right thing.”

Well worth the $100 Apple Developer Connection membership fee. Now when I want to email Stephanie it only takes 1 click to start a new email, not 6.

edit: first time I tried this I create a shortcut to a webpage that redirected to a “mailto:” link. That worked just fine, but starting up mobile Safari takes time. This single-serving app starts and dies almost instantly.

"A more recent development that further offends martini purists is the use of “martini” (or the suffix “-tini”) to refer to any beverage served in a cocktail glass, such as the appletini, the chocolatini, or the pineapple martini."
